Number Your Days: Living With Eternity in View
July 3, 2026
"So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." — Psalm 90:12
Time is one of God's greatest gifts, and every passing day brings us closer to eternity. That is why Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days." God desires that we live with an awareness that our time on earth is limited and should be invested in knowing Him and fulfilling His purpose.
The knowledge of God is not automatic; it is a personal and intentional pursuit. The Lord invites every individual to seek Him, not to boast in earthly achievements, but to glory in understanding and knowing Him (Jeremiah 9:23–24). Every day presents another opportunity to grow in faith, obedience, and spiritual maturity.
God's redemptive plan has been unfolding since before the foundation of the world. Though sin entered creation, the Lord has never abandoned His purpose. Like a wise builder who repairs what has been damaged instead of abandoning the project, God continues His work of redemption until His eternal plan is fulfilled (Ephesians 1:4–5; Revelation 13:8).
As living stones in God's spiritual building, we are being shaped and tested daily. Just as a builder carefully selects materials suitable for the finished structure, God examines our lives to prepare us for His everlasting kingdom. Those who remain faithful will inherit the new heaven and the new earth, where righteousness dwells (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1–4).
However, not every material used during construction becomes part of the completed building. Some are rejected because they fail the test. Likewise, Scripture reminds us that there will be a final judgment where every person will stand before God. Those whose names are found in the Book of Life will enter eternal glory, while those who reject God's salvation will face eternal separation from Him (Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 20:11–15).
Therefore, let us not waste the precious time God has given us. Let us repent, believe the gospel, and walk in wisdom. May we be among those who endure to the end and inherit God's eternal kingdom rather than the judgment that will accompany the purification of the present heavens and earth (2 Peter 3:10–13).
Prayer
Father, teach me to number my days and to live with eternity in view. Grant me a heart of wisdom to know You, obey Your Word, and remain faithful until the end. May my life be found acceptable before You, and may I be counted worthy to inherit the new heaven and the new earth through Jesus Christ. Amen.
