Some bow before carved images made from trees that God intended to serve humanity (Genesis 1:29). Others revere animals that God commanded man to manage and care for. Some even live in fear of birds that fly in the sky. How did this happen? Everything changed because of the fall of man. When Adam sinned, his focus shifted from God to himself. He lost the intimacy he once enjoyed with his Creator. When God called, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:9), it was not because God did not know Adam's location, but because Adam had changed his spiritual position. His reply, "I was afraid... so I hid myself," revealed the entrance of fear into the human race. Yesterday, we established that building our lives on Jesus Christ—the Chief Cornerstone and the Solid Rock through His Word—is what gives us strength, stability, and an unshakable foundation when the storms of life arise. Today, we will go a step further by looking at what truly keeps a believer steadfast in every season. The hymn writer declared: "On Christ the solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand." However, there is a difference between standing on the Rock and trusting the Rock. Many profess Christ, but only those who completely trust Him remain unshaken when trials come. He erects electric poles, strings wires, fixes bright bulbs, purchases a television and other appliances, but never lays a foundation or builds a home. What value is electricity without a house? Sadly, this picture describes the condition of many believers today. Many pursue spiritual gifts, positions, and outward manifestations while neglecting the most important work of all—building their lives on Jesus Christ, the Chief Cornerstone. Have you ever watched wrestlers and found one who never experiences defeat or resistance? In warfare, have you ever heard of an army that fights without casualties? The answer is no. As long as there is a battle, there will be opposition. Victory is not determined merely by avoiding blows, hiding from the enemy, or running from hardship. While wisdom and strategy are essential, the outcome often belongs to the one who can endure the pressure, rise after every blow, fight skillfully, and wisely use the resources available. July 13,2026 Have you ever noticed something remarkable in the genealogy of Jesus? Among the women mentioned—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Mary—one woman is not called by her name. Instead, Matthew refers to her as "the wife of Uriah" (Matthew 1:6). That was not accidental. It reminds every reader of David's greatest moral failure and the lasting consequences that followed. As you read 2 Samuel 11, one thing stands out. The narrative records no words from Bathsheba attempting to restrain David or call him back to his senses. Unlike Joseph, who fled from Potiphar's wife (Genesis 39:7–12), and unlike Tamar, the daughter of David, who resisted, pleaded with Amnon, and warned him not to commit such a disgraceful act (2 Samuel 13:12–13), no such resistance is recorded from Bathsheba in the biblical account.
