The Wisdom of God Revealed Through the Cross
June 9,2026
Before the great revelation of Christ, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, and many others sought to understand life's deepest mysteries through human reasoning. Despite their intellectual pursuits and profound reflections, their conclusions ultimately pointed toward what they called the "Unknown God" (Acts 17:23). Human wisdom searched, but it could not fully discover the saving purpose of God.
The Apostle Paul declared that the wisdom of this world cannot compare with the wisdom of God. He wrote:
"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God." (1 Corinthians 3:19)
Again, Paul emphasized that God deliberately chose a method of salvation that human wisdom would never have conceived:
"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise." (1 Corinthians 1:27)
To the natural mind, the idea that humanity's redemption and restoration would come through the crucifixion of God's Son appears foolish. Yet the message of the Cross is the very power and wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:18, 24). Many people readily accept animal sacrifices, blood rituals, initiations, and various religious ceremonies involving the shedding of blood, yet they stumble at the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The difference is that Christ's sacrifice was the final and perfect sacrifice that ended the need for all others.
God put an end to endless sacrifices by offering His own Son. Jesus did not take His own life; His death was not suicide. Rather, He was condemned and executed under the authority of the Roman government, the ruling world power of that time. The Jewish religious leaders delivered Him to be crucified, and Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, pronounced the verdict that led to His execution (Matthew 27:22-26; Acts 2:23).
Peter boldly confronted the Jewish leaders, declaring:
"The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree." (Acts 5:30)
Yet death could not hold Him. The grave could not imprison Him. On the third day, He rose triumphantly, proving that He is indeed the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
"Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." (Acts 2:24)
Jesus Christ is alive forevermore. He is the One who sustains all things by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). Through His death and resurrection, humanity was given access to reconciliation with God, forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life.
The Cross may appear foolish to the world, but to those who believe, it is the greatest demonstration of God's wisdom, love, and power.
Happy Celebration of the Risen Christ!
"But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." — Galatians 6:14
