The Power of True Faith: Believing in Christ and His Finished Work
June 16,2026
“And these signs shall follow them that believe...” — Mark 16:17
One of the greatest challenges among many believers today is a misunderstanding of some of the statements and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. A clear example is found in Mark 16:17, where Jesus declared, “And these signs shall follow them that believe.” Many interpret this to mean that the signs follow those who believe in casting out demons, speaking in tongues, healing the sick, or performing miracles. However, a closer look at the context reveals something deeper.
Before making this statement, Jesus rebuked His disciples for their unbelief because they struggled to accept the testimony of those who had seen Him after His resurrection (Mark 16:14). Their greatest challenge was not believing in miracles but believing that Jesus had truly risen from the dead. Therefore, when Jesus said, “These signs shall follow them that believe,” He was speaking primarily of those who believe in Him, His death, burial, resurrection, and the redemptive work He accomplished for humanity.
Many people hear about Jesus as a miracle worker, healer, and deliverer. As a result, they focus their faith on the manifestations rather than on Christ Himself. They desire the power but neglect the Person from whom the power flows. Yet the authority that causes demons to flee, sickness to bow, and lives to be transformed comes from faith in Jesus and His finished work.
Jesus Himself warned His disciples not to place their greatest joy in spiritual manifestations. He said, “Rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). Those whose names are written in the Book of Life are those who have received and believed in Him (John 1:12).
The foundation of the Christian life is not signs and wonders but Christ Himself. Signs are meant to follow believers; believers are not meant to chase signs. When our faith is rooted in Christ, His life naturally manifests through us. The more we know Him, trust Him, and walk with Him, the more His power becomes evident in our lives.
Sadly, many believers have been distracted by teachings that emphasize experiences above relationship, manifestations above Christ, and power above truth. As a result, genuine manifestations of the sons of God have become scarce. The enemy has succeeded in selling substitutes for the simplicity of faith in Christ.
Let us therefore examine our hearts. Have we become more fascinated with the signs than with the Savior? Have we left Jesus behind while pursuing the shadows of what only He can produce? The call of the Gospel remains the same: believe in Christ, abide in Him, and let every manifestation flow from that relationship.
If we truly believe in Jesus, all these signs will follow us according to His purpose and timing. As we walk closely with Him, what others struggle to attain becomes a natural expression of His life within us.
May the Lord help us to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith, and may we never lose sight of the One who is the source of all spiritual power and fruitfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
