The Only True Source of Spiritual Power

June 28,2026

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me..." — Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

Spiritual power is received only when the Holy Spirit comes upon and remains in the life of a believer. This is God's unchanging pattern for every Christian.

The Biblical Pattern

John the Baptist testified concerning Jesus:
"He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'" — John 1:33

Even our Lord Jesus Christ did not begin His public ministry until after the Holy Spirit descended upon Him (Luke 3:21–22; Luke 4:18). If the Son of God followed this divine order, no believer should expect to be an exception.

Beware of Counterfeit Power
One of the greatest deceptions in our generation is the pursuit of supernatural power without the indwelling and leading of the Holy Spirit. Scripture never presents another legitimate source of spiritual power outside the Spirit of God. Any power that does not originate from the Holy Spirit should be rejected.

The Bible warns us through the example of Simon the Sorcerer, who sought to obtain the power of the Holy Spirit through money. Peter rebuked him sharply because the gift of God cannot be bought or manipulated (Acts 8:9–24).

Likewise, many false teachers today attribute immoral and ungodly actions to the Holy Spirit. Claims such as, "The Holy Spirit instructed me to commit immorality," or any message that contradicts the Word of God, cannot come from the Spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit is holy, and He will never lead anyone into sin (John 16:13; Galatians 5:16–23).

The Cost of Spiritual Deception
Many have been lured into strange practices, unauthorized sacrifices, and ungodly rituals under the guise of seeking power. Others have suffered spiritual, emotional, and even mental devastation because they followed deceptive spirits instead of the Holy Spirit.

The Scriptures warn us:
"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God..." — 1 John 4:1

As believers, we must judge every spiritual experience by the Word of God and the character of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer
May the Lord grant you discernment to recognize truth from error. May you never fall victim to the enemy's deception or pursue counterfeit power. Instead, may you be continually filled, led, and empowered by the Holy Spirit for a life that glorifies Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
