The Heavenly Man and Our Glorious Transformation

June 23, 2026

From the Scriptures, we saw that after His resurrection, Jesus possessed a body of flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). He was not merely a spirit; rather, He possessed a glorified form that surpassed the limitations of our present natural bodies. The Apostle Paul describes this as a "spiritual body" (1 Corinthians 15:44).

Today, let us consider the significance of Christ's glorified state and what it means for every believer.

After His resurrection, Jesus entered into the fullness of God's original purpose for humanity. He is the perfect expression of all that the Father intended man to be. Having conquered sin, death, and corruption, He now stands as the complete and perfected Man. Hebrews 1:3 declares that He is "the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person." In Christ, we see the flawless image of God, which was God's original design for mankind from the beginning (Genesis 1:26-27).

The Heavenly Man
The Apostle Paul teaches that our present bodies are natural bodies, but they will not remain so forever. Just as a seed is sown into the ground and emerges transformed, the natural body is sown in mortality and raised in glory as a spiritual body (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).

Paul further explains:
"The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit."
— 1 Corinthians 15:45

Jesus Christ, the Last Adam, is the life-giving Spirit and the Lord from heaven. Unlike the first Adam, who brought humanity into the realm of mortality, Christ introduces us into the realm of eternal life and glory.

The Scripture calls Him the Heavenly Man:
"The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven."
— 1 Corinthians 15:47

And God's promise to every believer is remarkable:

"And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly."
— 1 Corinthians 15:49

The transformation that began with Christ will be completed in us. The Apostle John confirms this hope:

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."
— 1 John 3:2

One day, this corruptible body will put on incorruption, mortality will give way to immortality, and we shall be conformed fully to the image of Christ (Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53).

This is the believer's glorious hope—not merely forgiveness of sins, but complete transformation into the likeness of the Heavenly Man.

May we remain steadfast in faith and not miss the inheritance reserved for the saints in Christ Jesus. Amen.

"And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly." — 1 Corinthians 15:49.
