The Believer's Victory Over the Roaring Lion

June 14, 2026

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." — 1 Peter 5:8

The Scriptures reveal that Satan is a relentless adversary whose mission is to oppose God's people and hinder their walk with Christ. Jesus described him as a thief who comes "to steal, and to kill, and to destroy" (John 10:10). Therefore, believers must remain spiritually alert, discerning his devices and standing firm in the faith.

The activity of Satan is clearly seen in the book of Job. When the Lord asked him where he had been, he answered, "From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it" (Job 1:7). This reveals his continual search for opportunities to accuse, tempt, and devour those who are vulnerable.

Yet, there is wonderful news for every child of God: through the finished work of Jesus Christ, God is now for us and not against us. The sacrifice of Christ has reconciled us to the Father and secured our victory. Therefore, we can boldly declare:

"If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).

Though Satan remains active, his power is limited by the sovereign authority of God. In Job's case, the enemy could not touch him until permission was granted, and even then, strict boundaries were established by the Lord (Job 1:10-12). This demonstrates that God's protective hand remains upon His people.

As believers, our confidence is not in ourselves but in the victory secured by Christ. The blood of Jesus speaks on our behalf, silencing every accusation of the enemy. The Bible declares:

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony" (Revelation 12:11).

The blood establishes our redemption, while our testimony is the continual confession of our faith in Christ's finished work. Every time we stand upon God's Word and affirm what Christ has accomplished for us, we reinforce our position of victory over the adversary.

Therefore, refuse to live in fear. Stand firm in the Lord, clothed with the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Resist the devil steadfastly in faith, knowing that he has already been defeated through the cross of Christ (James 4:7; Colossians 2:15).

Today, declare with confidence:
"The devil may seek whom he may devour, but by the grace of God, he cannot devour me. I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus, protected by the power of God, and established in Christ."

May the Lord preserve you, strengthen your faith, and keep you standing victoriously in Christ Jesus. Amen.
