The Supremacy of the Word of God
May 19,2026
A careful study of Matthew 3:13–17 reveals how our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled all righteousness through humility by submitting Himself to baptism by John. Though John initially resisted, Jesus insisted, showing us the importance of obedience to God’s divine order. As a result of that act of humility, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove, and the voice of the Father declared His approval.
Immediately after this glorious encounter, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. There, He fasted and prayed for forty days and forty nights. Yet, among all the spiritual experiences He may have encountered in that season, one thing stood out powerfully in His life and character — His unwavering dependence on the Word of God.
When the devil came with temptations, Jesus did not rely on emotions, visions, or personal experiences. Instead, every response He gave was rooted in the Scriptures: “It is written.” Through this, Christ demonstrated that victory in both spiritual and physical battles comes through understanding, believing, and applying the Word of God.
Many experiences in the wilderness were not recorded, but His triumph over Satan through the Word was carefully preserved for us. Why? Because the pinnacle of every spiritual experience is not merely encounters, but the ability to stand and conquer through God’s Word.
The Scriptures declare:
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…” — Hebrews 4:12
And again:
“Thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” — Psalm 138:2
Beloved, focus on building the Word of God in your life. Prayer, fasting, and spiritual encounters are important, but they must lead you deeper into the knowledge and application of the Scriptures. The Word of God remains the believer’s only offensive weapon — the Sword of the Spirit.
“And take…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” — Ephesians 6:17
A believer grounded in the Word cannot easily be defeated by the enemy, because every challenge of life is overcome by divine truth.
