The Power of Humility: Learning Christ’s Way of Honour
February 9,2026
Luke 4:16–21; Luke 14:7–11; John 3:27; James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:6; Proverbs 18:12
Yesterday, we reflected on the calm authority of Christ—how Jesus, though a powerful preacher and the very Son of God, submitted Himself to the order of the synagogue. In Luke 4, He was handed the scroll of Isaiah, and His assignment for that day was simply to read the Scriptures. He did not interrupt the process or demand special recognition. The Creator allowed those He created to moderate the service. This alone teaches us that true authority does not need to struggle for visibility.
Today, we turn our attention to another profound lesson Christ taught and demonstrated—humility.
Jesus said, “When you are invited to a feast, do not take the place of honor… lest someone more distinguished than you be invited, and you begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place… then you will be honored” (Luke 14:7–11).
What a powerful instruction for every minister and child of God.
Do not be the kind of person who becomes offended when titles or appellations are not mentioned. Remember this truth: “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven” (John 3:27). Your name, your calling, and even your title were given—not self-created. They are entrusted to you by God through men.
Scripture reminds us that promotion does not come from self-exaltation but from humility. When you scramble for position, you reveal insecurity; when you walk humbly, you display confidence in God. “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Pride distances a man from God, but humility attracts divine help.
Therefore, do what is needful. Serve faithfully. Stay planted in humility. In due season, God Himself will raise you up. “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6). For truly, “Before honor is humility” (Proverbs 18:12).
I pray that the Lord will reshape our hearts, deliver us from pride, and help us become all that He has ordained us to be, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
