The Good Shepherd DevotionalStanding Firm in the True Gospel
January 14,2026
1 Corinthians 15:1–8; Romans 1:16; Romans 10:9–10; Galatians 1:6–9
For clarity and spiritual understanding, the Scriptures plainly declare—through the apostle Paul—the gospel that was preached to us, which we received, in which we now stand, and by which we are saved. This truth must never be forgotten. Paul warns that if we do not hold firmly to the gospel preached to us, our belief becomes vain (1 Corinthians 15:1–2).
From this passage, we see two categories of believers:
-Those who believe and stand in the true gospel.
-Those who believe in vain.
The gospel is meant to progressively become the believer’s possession through a clear spiritual process:
-The gospel is preached.
-It is received by faith.
-The believer stands firmly in it.
-Salvation is experienced and sustained.
The gospel that is preached is potent and effective because the true gospel—the preaching of the cross—is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16). When this gospel is proclaimed, it opens hearts to receive it. Receiving the gospel causes the believer to stand firm, no longer wavering, and standing leads to the experience of salvation.
What, then, is the gospel that distinguishes truth from vain belief?
According to the Scriptures, the true gospel is this: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). After His resurrection, He was seen by the apostles and by more than five hundred believers at one time (1 Corinthians 15:5–8). This affirms that Jesus did not rise as a spirit or a ghost, but as the resurrected Lord, visibly alive, witnessed by many. This is the unshakable foundation of our faith.
Any belief that departs from this gospel is vain. But faith anchored in this truth produces stability, transformation, and salvation.
Prayer:
I pray that you will not believe in vain, but that you will receive, stand firmly in, and continually walk in the true gospel of Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
