The Good Shepherd DevotionalRestored to Glory: Christ, the Image of God Revealed Through the Gospel

Romans 3:23; Genesis 1:26; John 1:4; John 6:63; 2 Corinthians 4:4; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Hebrews 1:3

The Scripture in Romans 3:23 gives a clear summary of what took place in Eden when Adam fell: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Man’s fall was not merely a moral failure; it was a loss of glory—separation from the original image and likeness in which God created humanity.

We established earlier that the words spoken from the Scriptures are spirit and life (John 6:63). Today, we look further into what the spoken Word of God is capable of accomplishing. The gospel we preach is not ordinary speech; it is light. It is “the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

“Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:4 (NKJV)

When the gospel is spoken and believed, the image of God is revealed and restored in the hearer. In Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” This was always a call to Christlikeness. Christ Himself is the image of God—“the express image of His person” (Hebrews 1:3).

Therefore, the glory that man fell short of was not an abstract concept; it was Christ Himself. Redemption is heaven’s agenda to restore man back to that original image. Whenever the Word—spirit and life—is spoken, the divine intention is to reconfigure man into God’s original design.

To behold the Word is to behold Christ. As we look into Him as into a mirror, we are transformed “from glory to glory” by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18). The revelation you received yesterday was a measure of glory; today brings another dimension of that same glory.

May you continually move from glory to glory as you are conformed to the image of Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
