The Good Shepherd Devotional. The Spoken Word: Life, Light, and the Power to Transform


January 17,2026

“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:4–5).

This profound truth reveals that the life within Christ is the very light of humanity. Our illumination, direction, and victory flow from the life that is in Him.

Jesus further confirms this mystery when He declares, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). What a revelation! The Word of God, when spoken, carries spiritual substance and releases life. Though written Scripture is powerful and inspired, spoken words activate and manifest what is written. It is in speaking that the Word is transformed into spirit and life in our daily experiences.

The Scriptures also teach us, “The first man Adam became a living soul; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45). Christ, the last Adam, is not only alive—He gives life. Therefore, His Word today is a life-dispenser, a carrier of divine power that brings transformation wherever it is released.

This helps us understand why miracles may sometimes seem delayed—not because God is unwilling, but because the Word has not yet been spoken. Faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17), and in the same way, miracles are released through speaking. The Word must be declared into situations for its life-giving power to take effect.

Therefore, speak today. Speak to that situation. Speak to your business, your family, your future. And to those trusting God for healing, we speak life—receive your healing in the name of Jesus. Whatever stands contrary to God’s will in your life, we decree its end now, in Jesus’ name.
