The Church as God’s Revealed Mystery: Strengthened in Love to Display His Manifold Wisdom

December 29,2025

For the past two days, we have been considering the subject of mysteries revealed to the Church through the Holy Spirit—divine truths that define the present state and calling of the Church of Christ on earth. Scripture teaches that the Church is one family with two locations: heaven and earth. As Paul writes, “from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” (Ephesians 3:15).

Within this one family on earth, both the Gentile world and the Jewish world are brought together under one head—Christ. In Him, they form one body with a singular and glorious assignment: to make known the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities and powers in heavenly places (Ephesians 3:10). These heavenly beings long to behold the wisdom and brilliance of their Maker as revealed through humanity redeemed in Christ.

The Apostle Paul, however, recognized a challenge facing this earthly expression of the Church. He acknowledged that tribulations and pressures could cause believers to lose heart (Ephesians 3:13). Because of this, he bowed his knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and prayed specific prayers for the Church. First, that the Church would be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:16). Second, that Christ would dwell in our hearts through faith (Ephesians 3:17a). Third, that the Church would be rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:17b).

It is only by being grounded in love that we can walk in unity and comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—and thereby know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge (Ephesians 3:18–19). This leads to a higher purpose: that we may be filled with all the fullness of God and consequently begin to display His manifold wisdom to all realms.

Sadly, it appears that many believers do not actively pray these apostolic prayers. Instead, there is often a tendency toward individualism, where some seek to function as a “one-man army.” Yet Scripture is clear: the fullness of Christ is revealed in the Church as one body, not through isolated individuals (Ephesians 1:22–23; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27). True knowledge of Christ is not the possession of a single person but is revealed collectively through the unity and fellowship of the saints.

May the Lord grant us understanding and bring us into this divine reality, that together we may grow into the fullness of Christ and faithfully reveal His wisdom to the world and the heavens, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
