Speaking From the Throne: When the Word First Confront the Preacher
December 26,2025
The Word of God is like a double-edged sword—powerful, living, and piercing on both sides. When I speak the Word of God, it is not meant only for the congregation or the audience; it is meant for me as well. If the sword of the Word does not first cut my own heart, convict me, and cause me to examine myself, then no matter how eloquent or beautiful the sermon may sound, I have not truly spoken for God.
Speaking on behalf of God is not an opportunity to attack others, vent frustration, or respond indirectly to personal offenses within the congregation. The pulpit is not a place for emotional retaliation or human agendas. It is a sacred space meant to reveal the mind and heart of God.
Every message must come from the throne of God. Personal opinions, trends, or recycled messages have no place there. I have observed many sermons that are merely echoes of what is popular, what is trending, or what another preacher has said. But if one cannot speak from God’s presence, it is better to step aside and allow those who have truly accessed the throne to minister to the people.
God is a God of variety. Three prophets or servants of God may speak, and though their expressions differ, their messages will align because they originate from the same throne. Why then should anyone become the mouthpiece of another man instead of the mouthpiece of God?
My prayer is that this generation—and generations to come, if Jesus tarries—will continually carry messages that flow from the throne of God. May our present ministers not become stumbling blocks, but faithful examples, leading others in truth and humility, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
