Transformed by the Word: Shedding the Luggage of Darkness
November 12,2025
When we come to Christ, we come with the baggage of many things that have consciously or unconsciously become part of our lives—traditions (family, ethnic, or societal), doctrines (religious or denominational), and ideologies that the Bible reveals as being influenced by “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2). These things once made us children of disobedience.
The devil’s permanent strategy is to keep believers away from the truth of the Word of God—the Word that is able to build us up (Acts 20:32) and sanctify us (John 17:17). He is not afraid of your long prayers; he is afraid of your long hours in the Word—because understanding the Word brings transformation into the fullness of the image of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).
If the devil succeeds in keeping you away from communion through the Word, he achieves three things:
He blinds your heart from the light of God’s truth. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
He dulls your eyes of understanding, for understanding only comes when knowledge flows in.
He plants deception and distraction around you, to keep you busy but unfruitful in the Word.
Remember, it is called “the ministry of the Word” (Acts 6:4), not the ministry of prayer. Prayer is powerful, but the Word is foundational. The Word must first become your personal experience before you can boldly speak of Christ to others.
Be careful of chasing spiritual experiences that are not rooted in the Word of God. A man who depends on the revelations of others will soon run out of what to say, but the one who digs continually from the living water—his personal well of revelation—will never run dry (Isaiah 12:3; John 4:14).
Coming to Jesus, the Light of the world, requires you to delete the luggage of darkness and fill your heart with the knowledge of Christ, which gradually becomes your life. This transformation varies from person to person, but it begins with one discipline: study the Word.
So, pray and pray indeed—but by the counsel of the Lord, read and study. The Word of God is your life.
We’d love to hear from you.
