The Lord My Shepherd: My Source of Power and Provision

Many of us have often read Psalm 23 and our attention quickly gravitates toward financial provision — “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” Yet, this declaration is far deeper than finances. It covers every sphere of life — spiritual, emotional, physical, and even in the realm of power and authority.

When David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd,” he was not merely speaking of material abundance. He was acknowledging a Shepherd who provides strength, protection, and guidance. If the Lord truly shepherds you, then you lack no power, no covering, and no defense, because His shepherding office ensures your complete preservation.

David, being a shepherd himself, understood the weight of this truth. He remembered when the lion and the bear came after his flock, and how he pursued them, rescued the sheep, and even struck them down (1 Samuel 17:34–36). That same zeal and power are what the Lord exercises over us. He does not stand by while the enemy attacks — He rises to defend and deliver His own.

Jesus confirmed this when He said, “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” (John 10:11).
He is not a passive protector but an active warrior-shepherd. Just as Jesus taught that no one can enter a strong man’s house except he first binds the strong man and then takes his goods (Luke 11:21–22), so the Lord binds every adversary that threatens His flock.

Therefore, you can boldly declare:

“The Lord is my Shepherd, my Light, and my Salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1).
In Him, you lack no power, no peace, and no provision.

Let your heart rest in this truth — your Shepherd is mighty, and His care for you is complete.

We would love to hear from you!
