The Kingdom Life: Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Spirit

November 14,2025

Scripture Text: “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” — Romans 14:17 (KJV)

The Kingdom of God, according to the Apostle Paul in Romans 14:17, is not defined by material pleasures, physical abundance, or worldly achievements such as fame, beauty, or wealth. Instead, it is characterized by three divine features that flow in ascending order—Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Spirit. These are the true marks of a life governed by God’s rule within.

1. Righteousness – The Foundation of the Kingdom

Whose righteousness do we speak of? It is not our own, but the righteousness of Christ, freely given to all who believe in His death and resurrection.
Through faith, we are made right with God—not by our works, but by His grace. This righteousness places God on our side, for “If God be for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:31.
It is this righteousness that gives us confidence before God and forms the foundation of our standing in His Kingdom.

2. Peace – The Fruit of Justification

Our righteousness in Christ brings us into a state of peace with God. The scripture says,
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:1
This peace is not the absence of trouble, but the assurance of reconciliation with God. It gives us rest of mind and the liberty to commune with our Father without fear or guilt. It is the stillness of heart that comes from knowing we are accepted in the Beloved.

3. Joy in the Holy Spirit – The Expression of the Kingdom

When righteousness and peace are firmly established in our hearts, the natural overflow is joy in the Holy Spirit.
This joy is not based on circumstances but springs from a heart that understands what Jesus has done. It is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and a sign of spiritual maturity and contentment in God.
The joy of the Lord becomes our strength (Nehemiah 8:10) and empowers us to live victoriously.

A Call to Reflection

Do these features—righteousness, peace, and joy—define your life today?
If your life still feels chaotic or burdened, it’s time to seek peace through reconciliation with God.
When you embrace the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, peace will follow—and joy will overflow.
