Becoming Like the Master
November 3,2025
“The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.” — Luke 6:40 (KJV)
A brief reflection on discipleship reveals that every encounter people have with a true disciple should mirror meeting the Master Himself. The goal of following Christ is not merely association but transformation — to become like Him. The Lord Himself said, “A disciple is not above his master, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his master” (Luke 6:40).
To follow Christ and not desire to live, act, and think as He does is a contradiction. Following is not by compulsion; it is a conscious decision to learn, submit, and be molded. A follower who refuses correction, or stands in opposition to the nature of the Master, has missed the essence of discipleship.
Even among the Lord’s disciples, there were moments of error and misunderstanding. John, the beloved disciple, though close to Jesus, stumbled more than once. He once forbade someone from casting out demons in Jesus’ name (Mark 9:38), revealing a lack of understanding of the Spirit’s work beyond their immediate circle. He and his brother James also sought positions of glory beside Christ (Mark 10:35–37), showing ambition before revelation. Yet, through correction and humility, John was transformed into one of the most profound witnesses of Christ’s divinity.
By the end of his journey, John had matured into a vessel through whom the Lord revealed the deep mysteries of heaven — authoring the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, and the Book of Revelation. His life is proof that discipleship is a process — a journey of continual learning, repentance, and alignment with the will of God.
So, dear follower, are you truly learning under your Master? Can your life reflect that you know the Lord, or are you only seeking recognition and status like James and John once did? The Lord calls us to transformation, not position. To follow Christ is to die to self and to live out His nature daily.
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
Think on these things, and let your walk with the Master bear His likeness in word, deed, and spirit.
