The Unseen Heroes: Lessons from Ananias
September 13,2025
Read Acts 9:10-19
As we reflect on the story of Saul's conversion, we often focus on his transformation. However, there's another key figure in this narrative – Ananias, the disciple who played a crucial role in Saul's life. The Bible does not refer to him as an apostle, evangelist, prophet, or pastor, but simply as a disciple.
The Greatness of Ananias
Apart from his encounter with Saul, there is no further record of Ananias' exploits. Yet, his obedience and faithfulness make him a great man. This reminds me of Pastor Yonggi Cho of South Korea, who was evangelized by a young girl and went on to pastor the largest church in the world.
Lessons from Ananias
Let's examine the qualities that made Ananias effective:
- He was a disciple: Ananias' humility and willingness to serve demonstrate the importance of discipleship.
- He was in alignment with the Lord: Ananias maintained a constant fellowship with God, allowing him to hear God's voice clearly.
- He was a man of prayer: The Lord revealed to Saul that Ananias had already prayed for him in the spirit, demonstrating Ananias' deep prayer life. Meaning he must have had a time of prayer that he touch the mind of the Lord concerning Saul in the Spirit during prayer
The Power of Waiting Times
Ananias' experience teaches us that waiting times are opportunities for discipleship and deepening our relationship with God. Though Ananias may not have received recognition, his obedience birthed an apostle who wrote over half of the New Testament – Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.
Application
As you navigate your current season, ask yourself:
- Are you in a waiting time?
- Are you using this time to deepen your fellowship with God?
- Are you praying and aligning yourself with God's will?
May you grow in fellowship and alignment with God, just like Ananias. May his example inspire you to trust God and obey His voice.
